Alternative Art Classes in Southern California
This was originally an answer post to question by carliefornya, but apparently those can’t be reblogged. I deleted that ask and made it into a text post so it can be reblogged if you want to share with your friends. At the bottom there’s a list of small art schools in SoCal that use the really nice system of only paying for the classes you take, and it’s very affordable.

If you’re into animation/design/visdev, i would recommend moving to Southern California if you don’t already live here haha. Burbank is the animation capital of the United States, since all the big studios are over there. There are so many small art schools down here that are taught by industry pros, and there is no school tuition. you just pay for the class and you learn straight out of the teacher. the 10-week classes range from $300-$600 per class, but there are also 6-8week classes at The Animation Guild for like… $100 per class I think?.
here’s the link to animation guild classes: http://animationguild.org/education/
I myself take classes at Concept Design Academy (http://conceptdesignacad.blogspot.com/), where they have teachers like Bill Perkins, Robert St. Pierre, Leighton Hickman, James Paick, Mike Yamada, Victoria Ying, Shiyoon Kim, Nathan Fowkes, all are industry pros currently working in animation studios like Disney, Dreamworks, Sony, etc.
There are plenty of other schools here, all using the same format of only paying for the classes you want to take. A list of them has been compiled over here: http://irvinesketchjam.blogspot.com/2012/01/local-private-art-schools-in-southern.html
Hope this helps, for you and for everyone else interested! =)
