- Thank you, glad it was helpful! I was worried I had wasted 58 minutes of people’s life. My canvas size depends. If I’m doing a comic for printing, I start with 7in x 10.5in @300dpi. If I’m just doodling for Tumblr, I use 1000x1400 pixels. If I’m just doodling crap I’m not going to save, I restrict myself to 500x350 pixels. When I’m doing storyboards, I go the HD resolution (1920x1080 pixels). And yes, the spiral thing is my friend. I do it traditionally and digitally.
- It really doesn’t matter what kinda material you use to decorate your booth. Bright-colored tablecloth usually helped attract attention. Wireframes are useful when you’re displaying small prints, bookmarks, stickers, etc. PVC setup will be easier for hanging prints. The point is that you want people who are not near your table to be able to see your table, so make sure there’s some height to it. As far as cosplaying goes, if anything it will attract fans of the series to at least come up to you and talk. They’re not necessarily going to buy, though. For me, cosplaying is just an extra cost in time and effort, so I never bothered.
- This actually just happened yesterday. It started out as a bad drawing day, and I told myself to keep going because it will get better. Later that night, things didn’t get any better, so I decided to sleep it off. Today I woke up and went out for the whole day with friends, basically just having fun and forgetting drawing completely. When I came back home tonight, I started drawing again, and they came out much better than they were yesterday. Bottomline is, keep going. If that doesn’t work, give it up, do other activities, and come back to it later. Usually that will give you a fresh perspective.
- No, but I’ve been told that my voice sounds like the voice of a duck being molested by another duck while flying. I’m not even entirely sure what that was supposed to sound like.
- It’s anything you want it to be.
- Haha, oh wow, I actually don’t know how to answer this. Most people start out drawing 3/4, so usually that’s the one they can draw the best. I guess for a start you can go to posemaniacs and try to map the face in frontal view and at an angle. You can also look for 3/4 face references and study where they elements (eyes nose mouth) are in relation with one another. I’d write some sort of tutorial, but to be honest I don’t even know what to write. Sorry I’m no help on this one.
- I… I actually have no idea. I’ve never gone to an art school (shame) so I can’t really form any opinions about them. From what I heard though, a lot of people in the animation comes from Cal Arts, so I’m guessing they have a lot of good animation teachers, or good connection to the animation industry. A friend of mine, Radford Sechrist, is teaching at Cal Arts, so maybe you can send him a message on tumblr? De’Von Stubblefield is also another very talented young artist trying to get into CalArts, he can definitely tell you something more than me.
- I am very ashamed. Yes I am, and I am preparing some sort of surprise, which ended up taking a long time because it’s going to be like a full chapter worth of story before it gets released. Please be patient and forgive me for continuing to give false hopes.
